Menu moved to the left side of the page. Header and footer kept relatively the same size. However, the header size was reduced by the height of the old menu. To avoid a gap between the content area and the footer, the rotating image was made taller to compensate. Version 3.0 and 3.1 only differ in the placement of the background logo.
The viewable area of the site shown in varying browser sizes is compared below. The data on what percentage of people use what browser size, collected by google, is overlaid on the images of both v2.0 and 3.0 so you can see how the site is affected by using a vertical or horizontal menu.

Viewable area study of v3.0 – The resolution and percentage of people who can view the site without scrolling is shown. With the vertical menu, only 40% of visitors will see the entire menu.
